Information
Below we have provided some information to help you better understand the BYU-Idaho Wrestling League.
Coaching Opportunities
Students experienced in playing or coaching
wrestling at BYU-Idaho serve as
wrestling coaches. These coaches select their team members via a draft following the tryouts at the beginning of the semester. Coaches are responsible for helping to recruit students to participate in
wrestling, for developing and/or adapting a training program for their teams, for discussing and establishing team and individual goals/objectives, for conducting team practices, and helping to plan and participate in
duals, meets and
tournaments. Coaches
are responsible for
meeting with other
coaches to discuss
scheduling
practices, duals,
meets and
tournaments.
Coaches lead by example. They are expected to be exemplary in their conduct at all times. They love and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the BYU-Idaho Honor Code and Dress Code faithfully. They strive to excel in their academic, athletic and spiritual pursuits.
Ideally, coaches should have two years prior experience as an athlete competing as part of the BYU-Idaho
wrestling program (Some exceptions may be considered as this program is just getting started). Good leadership skills and a healthy desire to learn while teaching and serving others is a strong attribute of successful coaches.
Coaches may continue to compete as part of their team, if they so desire.
Wrestling coaches are selected and mentored by Philip Crane. Individuals interested in serving as coaches should contact him.
Tryouts
Because the competitive leagues at BYU-Idaho will emulate true varsity programs, tryouts will be necessary in order to
ensure that the
talent level is
spread across each
team.
Wrestlers interested in trying out are invited to attend the first all-comers tournament of the year. This is where wrestlers will register for the season and where coaches will evaluate the talent level of the individuals.

Practices
Every team will have the opportunity to practice at least twice a week. Practices will be run by the student coaches who have been trained and mentored by the
Wrestling Director. Practice will help develop the players skills, abilities and will build team unity. It will be a foundation for the players to become a team. Every player will be required to come to practice. If there is a reason why he cannot make practice he will need to contact his coach before hand to let him know why he will not be at practice.
Games
Each team will
compete in 3-5
duals, meets and
tournaments
throughout the Fall
and Winter semesters.
Duals, meets and
tournaments can be held throughout the week and on Saturday's.
As soon as the official game schedule is determined for each semester it will be posted.
Championship
Tournament
The Brigham Young
Wrestling League will host a tournament at the end of the regular season to crown its
Wrestling Team and
individual
Champions.
